It is said that De Martino family works the same clay from the end of 1400

(August 10th 1479 to be more precise, as stated in a deed preserved in the Benedictine Abbey of Cava dei Tirreni), using the same technique and the same furnaces at Rufoli di Ogliara, a small fraction of Salerno in Italy.

An ancient tradition
passed down through generations of “Mastri de’ Cotto” (Cotto Masters).
Forming, drying, cooking and squaring; always the same steps, the same artisan gestures.
Manual movements to create cotto

which can be admired in old buildings as Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome or modern contexts as a luxury boutique hotel in Manhattan's Bryant Park Hotel in New York .
